Th e board should not have the power to charge shareholders an arbitrary amount that is not related to their percentage of share ownership in the cooperative.” n Q&A continued from page 36 nials who are not homebuyers cite a lack of savings; 10 percent say its crushing student debt; 5 percent cite credit card debt; 6 per- cent claim other debt; and 17 percent say it’s poor credit. Reportedly, homeownership by millennials is the lowest in comparison to previous generations. Steven Olikara of the advocacy group Millennial Action Proj- ect, told the Post: “It is really tough. I see too many of my friends who’ve had to put their dreams on hold because of too much debt, or because they do not have enough income.” LaW & LeGisLation Ex-Bear Stearns CEO Sues Manhattan Co- op Th e former CEO of Bear Stearns linked to the 2008 fi nancial crisis sued his Manhat- tan co-op board, reported the New York Post. According to a lawsuit fi led in Manhattan Supreme Court, James Cayne alleged that the board turned down three potential buy- ers as he tried to sell his co-op at 510 Park Avenue. He claimed that the board has pre- vented him from unloading the apartment due to a long-running dispute with a mem- ber of the board. Th e apartment’s initial ask- ing price of $15 million in 2013 was later re- duced to $10 million as a result, Cayne’s suit alleged. He is seeking to examine the board’s books and records to fi nd out why the board rejected the potential buyers. Cayne and his wife purchased the co-op in 1981 for $1.1 million; they had since moved to another residence but continued to pay for the Park Avenue co-op’s maintenance fees, according to the couple. Th e co-op board did not re- turn the Post’s request for a comment. n PULSE continued from page 4 Please submit Pulse items to Hannah Fons at hannah@cooperator.com
